Rose de France amethyst has a unique chemical makeup, with a lower proportion of iron molecules than most amethysts. The color of amethyst is determined by iron and the environment it's in during crystal formation, so more iron results in a deeper tone. To achieve its desired color, Rose de France amethyst is sometimes heated to lighten it or remove "smoky" components. A high quality rose de France will show very few veils. Ours has not been heated, as far as we know.
